Post-doc and PhD positions in algebraic geometry, Johannes Gutenberg-University of Mainz, Germany

Deadline: February 15, 2013

ARGOMENTI: International Area

At the Johannes Gutenberg-University of Mainz, several post-doc and PhD positions in algebraic geometry will be available during the course of the year 2013. The positions are funded by the SFB/TRR 45 "Periods, moduli spaces, and the arithmetic of algebraic varietis". Further information can be found in the detailed descriptions below, or by visiting http://www.mathematik.uni-mainz.de/Members/blicklem/phd-and-postdoc-positions/

-Post-doc positions in algebraic geometry

At the Mainz branch of the DFG-funded research collective SFB/TRR 45 "Periods, moduli spaces, and the arithmetic of algebraic varieties" a number of post-doc positions will be available in the near future. We are seeking highly motivated candidates with a PhD in mathematics and a strong background in algebraic geometry or an adjacent field. Good communication skills in English or German are desirable as well as a willingness to learn German within the first two years. There is a teaching requirement of up to 2 hours per week.

Candidates are expected to conduct research in one of the focus areas of the SFB/TRR 45 which are represented in Mainz:
M1: D-modules and Hodge cohomology in char p>0, Logarithmic Higgs bundles and Hermitean Yang-Mills theory
M2: Regulators for Tate motives, Algebraic groups and Chow motives
M3: Frobenius and singularities, Higgs bundles in mixed characteristics
M5: Arakelov inequalities and the Mumford-Tate group
M6: Special subvarieties of Shimura varieties
M8: Moduli spaces of complexes as symplectic varieties, Lagrangian fibrations, Symplectic singularities, Lagrangian geometry of integrable systems

For further information please refer to the webpage www.sfb45.de or contact one of the principal investigators in Mainz directly:
Manuel Blickle, Manfred Lehn, Stefan M?ller-Stach, Nikita Semenov, Duco van Straten, Kang Zuo.

The positions are 1+2 years (Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L 100%). Applications should include the following documents:
Short Letter of intent
Curriculum Vitae listing up to 3 of your publications you consider most significant
List of publications
Research statement
Copy of Phd certificat
Two letters of recommendation, one of which from your thesis advisor (mailed directly to us)
Up to 3 of your publications and/or Phd thesis

Applications should be mailed electronically as a single Pdf-file
(publications/Phd thesis separately) to the following address
