ARGOMENTI: Seminari

Venerdi' 18 Gennaio 2013 alle ore 16.00 in aula 2AB45, il Prof. Jari Taskinen (Universita' di Helsinki) terra' una conferenza dal titolo "Gaps in the continuous spectrum of some elliptic boundary value problems".

-Abstract
We study the spectrum of some elliptic BVP's, especially the linear elasticity and water-wave problems. The domains of these equations or systems are unbounded periodic waveguides, so the existence of continuous spectrum is expected. In case the waveguides have thin structures (ligaments, apertures) connecting the periodicity cells we show that spectral gaps may appear, and we find conditions which imply the existence of an arbitrary (finite) number of gaps.
The talk is based on joint research with Sergey Nazarov, Fedor Bakharev and Keijo Ruotsalainen.
