Giovedì 25 Settembre 2014 alle ore 12:00, in aula 2AB40, il Prof. Jari Taskinen dell'Università di Helsinki (Finland) terrà una conferenza dal titolo "Operator theoretic approach to the linear water wave equations: recent progress, new results".

Abstract.
The linear water wave system consists of the Laplace equation with mixed, Neumann and spectral Steklov boundary conditions. However, a suitable variational formulation leads to a quite standard elliptic spectral problem, which makes it possible to apply conventional Hilbert-Sobolev space methods. I review my recent works with Sergey Nazarov and Jussi Martin.
These include results on the continuous spectrum in the case of water domains with cuspidal geometries and a new approach for the case of freely floating objects.
