Mercoledì 30 Novembre 2016 alle ore 16:30 in Aula 1A150, Gianluca Crippa (University of Basel) terrà un seminario dal titolo “How to optimally stir your coffee: Challenges in differential equations”.

Mixing of different fluids is an ubiquitous phenomenon in sciences, technology, and everyday life. Nevertheless it is fair to say that we are quite far from a clear mathematical understanding of its analytical properties. In this talk I will present my perspective on this problem by describing a suitable mathematical framework for mixing phenomena and by proving a "toy theorem" in a simplified setting. The role of measure theory in the analysis of irregular partial differential equations will be emphasized.

Short Bio
Prof. Crippa received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, in 2008, and was awarded the title of “Doctor scientiarum naturalium with distinction” by University of Zurich in 2010, writing a Thesis under the co-supervision of Luigi Ambrosio and Camillo De Lellis. He is Associate Professor in Analysis at University of Basel since 2011. Previously he was Assistant Professor at University of Parma from 2007 through 2011. Gianluca Crippa has been awarded the Premio Bartolozzi 2013 by Unione Matematica Italiana to the best Italian mathematician below 33 years, and has won recently the ERC Starting Grant FLIRT: Fluid Flows and Irregular Transport (2016-2021). Gianluca has worked in many different topics in Partial Differential Equations, Geometric Measure Theory and Fluid Dynamics, he publishes regularly in the most influential journals of mathematical analysis and is editor of the De Gruyter book series Partial Differential Equations and Measure Theory.
