RINVIATO Mercoledì 16 Maggio 2018 alle ore 14:30 in Aula 1BC50, Giulia Schettino (Institute of Applied Physics “Nello Carrara” (IFAC) - Italian National Research Council (CNR)) terrà un seminario dal titolo “Dynamical mapping of the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) region for passive dynamical disposal”.

Abstract
The proliferation of space debris in the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) region requires both the implementation of prevention strategies and the outline of advanced re-entry solutions. By means of a singly-averaged numerical propagator, we performed a detailed dynamical mapping of the LEO region up to 3000 km of altitude. The analysis has been carried out as part of the Horizon 2020 ReDSHIFT (Revolutionary Design of Spacecraft through Holistic Integration of Future Technology) project. It turns out that dynamical resonances associated with solar radiation pressure, lunisolar perturbations and high-degree geopotential harmonics can open natural deorbiting highways. In particular, the associated eccentricity growth can be exploited alone or in combination with atmospheric drag depending on the area-to-mass ratio of the object. The analysis is combined also with a frequency characterization of the eccentricity evolution.
