Hamiltonian monodromy is one of the best examples where the abstract theory of integrable Hamiltonian systems meets with and informs the study of molecular and atomic systems. In the past decade generalized notions of Hamiltonian monodromy (fractional monodromy, bidromy, etc.) have been introduced in model Hamiltonians and have been later shown to exist in physical systems. We give a review of these generalized monodromies, emphasizing their common characteristics, and the role they play for the structure of joint quantum spectra.
