''Sharing Sensitive Information with Privacy: Cryptographic Protocols and Applications''

Modern society is increasingly dependent on, and fearful of, the availability of electronic information. There are numerous realistic scenarios where sensitive data must be (sometimes reluctantly or suspiciously) shared between two or more entities without mutual trust. As often happens, the research community has anticipated the need for mechanisms to enable limited (privacy-preserving) sharing of sensitive information and a number of effective (if not always efficient) solutions have been proposed. Among them, Private Set Operation techniques are particularly appealing whenever two parties wish to compute an intersection, union or some other function of their respective sets of items without revealing any other information.

This series of talks motivates the need for Private Set Operation techniques with various features and privacy properties and illustrates several concrete protocols that (currently) offer the best efficiency. Among those are protocols for: Private Set Intersection, Private Set Union, Cardinality of Private Set Intersection/Union, and Size-Hiding Private Set Intersection. Next, some specific application domains will be considered where aforementioned protocols can be applied to obtain privacy-agile services. These include: (1) private database querying, (2) private genomic computations, and (3) large-scale privacy-preserving publish/subscribe systems.
