Colloquia Patavina: Are people rational?

Martedì 9 Giugno 2015, ore 16:00 - Aula 1A150 - Ivar Ekeland

Martedì 9 Giugno 2015 alle ore 16:00 in Aula 1A150, Ivar Ekeland (CEREMADE, Université Paris-Dauphine) terrà una conferenza della serie Colloquia Patavina dal titolo "Are people rational?".

Economic theory assumes that people make consumption choices by maximizing a concave utility function under linear constraints. Is that correct? More precisely, is that a testable assumption? We will show that it is, and we will provide a test. Proving that the test is necessary and sufficient requires exterior differential calculus, in the line of Elie Cartan, and carrying it out is an experiment in econometrics. This is joint work with P.A. Chiappori.
