Martedì 18 Luglio 2017 alle ore 12:15 in Aula 2BC30, Francesco Maddalena (Politecnico di Bari) terrà un seminario dal titolo “Variational problems for Foppl-von Karman plates”.

Some variational problems for a Foppl-von Karman plate subject to general equilibrated loads are studied. Existence and non-existence of global minimizers are studied in detail. By a Gamma-convergence approach, the analysis of critical points is addressed through an asymptotic development of the energy functional in a neighborhood of the flat configuration. It is proved that critical points of the Foppl-von Karman energy can be strongly approximated by uniform Palais-Smale sequences of suitable functionals. Eventually the analysis as the plate thickness tends to 0 is studied.
