Mercoledì 11 Luglio 2018 alle ore 12:15 in Aula 2BC30, Paolo Gidoni (Università di Padova) terrà un seminario dal titolo “On the genesis of anisotropic dry friction”.

In this talk we propose an analytical multiscale model to explain the genesis of an anisotropy in friction when the interaction is mediated by a bristle-like element. We present a convergence result, showing that the play operator can be obtained as the limit of a family of systems characterized by a vanishing viscosity and a wiggly perturbation in the energy, scaling to zero. Then we apply this result to some simple mechanical models, that exemplify the interaction of a bristle with a surface having small fluctuations, and discuss the effect of the geometry and elasticity of the bristle on the friction coefficients. We conclude with a brief overview on how this results is related with the modelling of crawling locomotion.
