Martedì 9 Ottobre 2018 alle ore 14:00 in Aula 2BC30, Monica Dessole (Università di Padova) terrà un seminario dal titolo “Numerical Multi-Linear Algebra”.

Tensors or multiway arrays are functions of three or more indices (i,j,k,...), akin to matrices (two-way arrays), which are function of two indices (i,j). Tensors have been studied for almost one century, but only recently they became popular in many application fields, such as signal processing, data mining, computer vision, etc. They demand new results in numerical analysis and numerical linear algebra. Two particular tensor decompositions can be considered as higher-order extensions of matrix singular value decomposition: the canonical polyadic decomposition of a tensor as a sum of rank-one tensors, and the Tucker decomposition as a higher-order principal component analysis. Tensors have some similarities with matrices being their natural extension, however their decompositions have quite different properties.
