"Numerical modeling for convection-dominated problems"

During the last years, there has been a great interest in the development of sophisticated mathematical models for the simulation of real life applications which involves convection-dominated phenomena. For example, these problems concern the solution of scalar advection-diffusion equations, the Navier-Stokes equations and the Shallow Water equations.
The main goal of this seminar is to review the most important difficulties that arise in the numerical approximation of this kind of problems when convection dominates the transport process.
Moreover, we present a method for the treatment of this equations with the use of the finite element discretization on the domain.
