Short biography

I got my undergraduate degree in Mathematics at UNAM in Mexico City in 2000. I then enrolled the Program in Applied Mathematics at the University of Arizona were I got my Phd in 2007 under the supervision of Hermann Flaschka. My thesis concerned geometric aspects of nonholonomic systems with symmetry.

I did a long, 4 year, postdoc in the group of Tudor Ratiu at EPFL, Switzerland and a short, 4 month postdoc with Yuri Fedorov at UPC, Barcelona. I was a visiting professor at ITAM in Mexico City for a semester and held a tenured position at IIMAS, UNAM, in Mexico City for several years prior to moving to the University of Padua in 2021 where I am an Associate Professor. I was awarded the "abilitazione" to Full Professor in Mathematical Physics by the Italian Ministry of University and Research in January 2022.

I have been awarded a Newton Advanced Fellowship by the British Royal Society (2015) and a Georg Forster Fellowship for Experienced Researchers by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany (2017). These respectively allowed me to spend long research periods at the University of Manchester with James Montaldi and at TU Berlin with Yuri Suris

My research interests revolve around the role of symmetry and geometry in the dynamics of mechanical systems.
