“Profinite groups and probability”

Thursday 26 February 2026 h. 14:30 - Room 2BC30 - Nowras Naufel (Padova, Dip. Mat.)

Abstract

Profinite groups are a class of topological groups which show up in a broad range of mathematical subjects and, as such, they can be studied with tools coming from algebra, analysis, geometry, probability , among others. Most of the talk will be spent introducing the concept of profinite groups and highlighting key examples and properties. Time permitting, I will briefly speak about how probability can come into play.

The video of the seminar will appear shortly afterwards in this Mediaspace channel.
