“The Selberg trace formula in three-dimensional hyperbolic geometry”

Abstract
Motivated by problems in low-dimensional topology, I will discuss work with M. Lipnowski aimed at understanding explicitly spectra of natural differential operators on compact hyperbolic three-manifolds. After introducing the fundamental concepts of hyperbolic geometry, I will explain how to employ various versions of the Selberg trace formula for SL(2;C) (and related groups) to perform computations in concrete examples.
