“Classification of algebraic varieties”
Martedì 26 Ottobre 2021, ore 16:00 - Aula 1A150 e YouTube - Lucia Caporaso (Università Roma Tre)
Abstract
In algebraic geometry the sets parametrizing geometric objects have a natural geometric structure which reflects the properties of the parametrized objects. This fact lies at the heart of a central area in modern geometry, called “moduli theory”.
The colloquium will give a general description of this theory and describe some recent developments.
Short Bio
Lucia Caporaso obtained her Degree in Mathematics at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in 1989 and her Ph.D. at Harvard University in 1993, under the supervision of Joe Harris. After having held positions at (amongst others) Harvard University and MIT, since 2001 she is Full Professor in Geometry at Roma Tre University in Rome. She has published more than 40 papers in international journals. She is also a member of the editorial board of Transactions of the AMS, Memoirs of the AMS, Forum of Mathematics, Pi, Forum of Mathematics, Sigma, Algebraic Geometry, Bulletin of the Brazilian Mathematical Society, Lecture Notes of the Unione Matematica Italiana and Rendiconti del Circolo Matematico di Palermo – Springer. She was invited speaker at the AMS Summer Research Institute on Algebraic Geometry in 1995, 2005 and 2015, plenary speaker at the UMI congress in 2015 and invited speaker at the ICM in 2018.
